In Summer 2009, Peter Lewin and myself will step down as Poetry and Fiction editor of Red Ink after 3 enjoyable years that have seen us go from a new small press e-magazine (and they tend to come and go in a blink of any eye) to a respected publication cited in acknowledgements at a number of UK poetry publishing houses. 9 issues later and we want to acknowledge UK voices in POETRY and FICTION, and to this end we are looking for the top 20 poets and top 10 fiction writers in the UK (any genre).
We are doing this with a twist though, rather than editors deciding, we're asking you, readers of fiction and poetry.
You nominate your favourite poets (in the forum marked POETRY: Red Ink Nominations).
You nominate your favourite fiction writer (in this forum).
The only rules are that they must be resident or born in the UK, that they must be alive and that you cannot nominate yourself.
So get nominating now and let us know why you are nominating these names, why do you love their work so much.
We will collect nomination until the early March 2009 when will put all the names up in the Red Ink forum for voting on.
The top 20 poets will be then be published in a special Red Ink issue in Summer 2010 and the 10 Fiction Writers will be published in a special bumper Winter 2009 issue.
That means the 2009 reading period will be suspended and new editors will be appointed in 2010. In 2009, you control the content.
Get nominating. |

I'm just going to go off on one now:
Will Self, really, some of his books are wonderful but The Book of Dave was just poor.
Jeff Noon, really like him but don't seem to see any of his work nowadays.
Kim Lakin-Smith, just started reading her work, it's strange and wonderful and she's at Alt Fiction 07 November 2008.
Maggie Gee because The Ice People is still relevant today and she writes some wonderful short fiction. |
